Nevada Gambling Revenue Sees a Significant Decrease in the Month of April
The Nevada casinos in the month of April saw a decrease in revenue. Overall the casinos had taken in from players a total of $810.5 million. This represents a 5.6 percent drop in revenue compared with April of 2009. Taxes collected amounted to $39.7 million, or a 23.4 percent dip compared to the same month in the previous year.
The Las Vegas Strip registered the smallest decline. A one percent drop to $437 million had been witnessed.
The entire fiscal year has been on a downfall for Nevada’s gambling revenue. A solid 4 percent drop had been noticed through the first ten months of this fiscal year. Despite this situation the Strip has recorded a slight increase of half of a percent.
With the opening of the ARIA Casino in the Las Vegas’ CityCenter it was hoped that the project would give a boost to the gambling economy in Las Vegas, but that did not happen. Although Las Vegas, regarding the revenue declines, is not affected as much as Atlantic City, the well known gambling destination is still in a tight spot, financially speaking.
