Eric Buchman Wins at the 2010 WSOP Event 18
Eric Buchman at the WSOP in the last years managed to obtain top notch results. In 2006 he finished in second place in the $1,500 Limit Hold’em event and last year he captured the fourth position in the WSOP November Nine.
At the 2010 World Series of Poker Buchman did it again. But this time he found himself in the top spot. He took down the $2,000 limit hold’em tournament, Event 18. For the impressive performance Buchman received the first place prize of $203,607 and a bracelet.
Event 18 saw a field of 476 players. Buchman, a 31-year-old veteran poker pro from Valley Stream, New York, after great efforts outlasted the competition and reached the final table. He entered this stage of the tournament with the largest amount of chips (453,000).
Buchman seemed to sit back in the first level, before making some big hands and winning big pots to eliminate Matt Grapenthien in seventh and William Jensen in sixth. Then he found a way around Flavio Ferrari’s dominating A-7 with his own 9-7 to send the Italian packing in fourth place. But Buchman did not stop here. Steven Hustoft’s hopes to reach the final battle were shattered when Buchman flopped a royal flush draw and filled his straight on the river. Hustoft ended in third place.
Buchman received the top prize and the WSOP bracelet after he defeated Brett Courson heads-up. The match lasted 45 minutes. Courson for the runner-up finish got a substantial check of $125,737.
This tournament win for Buchman was the second of his poker career. The first win came in 2004 when he took down the $2,500 no-limit hold’em championship event at the Foxwoods New England Poker Classic. From live tournament winnings he collected over $3.7 million.
