Kent Washington, Erik Sagstrom Lead Day 1 at the 2010 WSOP
The 2010 World Series of Poker kicked off yesterday at the Rio in Las Vegas with two events: the $500 No-Limit Hold’em Casino Employees tournament (Event 1) and the $50,000 Players Championship (Event 2).
Before the tournaments began, the opening ceremonies took place, and the late Chip Reese was honored. In 2006 he took down the first $50K event at the WSOP. Sadly, in 2007 Reese passed away. The trophy for the $50K event is now named in his honor.
Event 1, the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em, saw a number of 721 employees. The total prize pool reached $324,450. The winner of this event will take home the first place prize worth $71,374. In just twelve hours the massive field was reduced to 53. Among the notables who busted out early were the former WSOP tournament director Matt Savage and the poker manager at Aria Casino, Adam Altwies.
Kent Washington ended the day with the largest stack. He holds a total of 168,300.
