Bryan Devonshire Successful in the Rincon Championship

The championship event at the WSOP Circuit stop at Harrah’s Rincon in San Diego was won by Bryan “Devo” Devonshire. He got the top prize worth $114,975 and a gold ring. Devonshire also captured a $10,000 seat into the WSOP Main Event. The performance achieved at Harrah’s Rincon represents his first WSOP tournament win. Devonshire obtained his first tournament victory in approximately two years after a series of deep runs and final table appearances.
Only 70 players participated in the championship event and a prize pool of $328,500 was created. Last year a number of 106 competitors showed up for the event, which was won by Dwyte Pilgrim. In 2008 there were 148 participants and in 2007 was registered a total of 181.
By the end of the first day the 70-player field at this year’s Harrah’s event was reduced to just nine. Only seven of the nine finalists made money.
In the final table Devonshire faced top players like the WSOP gold bracelet winners Dan Schreiber and Howard “Tahoe” Andrew, Daniel Burke and Wei Kai Chang.
The first player to exit this last stage was Chang. Although he began play as the chip leader Chang lost all of his chips in three critical hands. Unfortunately for him he did not finish in the money. Chang in his career obtained notable results including a second place in the 2006 WSOP Circuit Main Event championship.
The next to go was Darryn “Eastside” Hardin. He took a bad beat on his final hand and ended in eighth place. Like Chang, Hardin did not finish in the money.
In seventh place came Daniel Burke. He got a nice check of $13,140. In 2005 he won a WSOP Circuit gold ring in the Pot-Limit Omaha tournament which took place at Bally’s Las Vegas.
Mike McClain after a battle with was knocked out in sixth position. He took Ad 7c up against Devonshire’s Ac 8h. McClain was dominated throughout the hand. Four hearts on board gave a heart flush to Devonshire. The final board revealed 3c 3h 2h 4h 7h. All was over for McClain. He took home $19,710.
Ron Segni ended in fifth place. He fought with Dan Schneider. Segni’s chance to win the tournament vanished when his Ah 8s was run down by Dan Schneider’s Jh 8h. When the board came Ks 9c Th 2h 9h Schneider made runner-runner flush. Segni got a prize of $26,280.
In fourth position came John Farrell ($32,850) and in third Howard “Tahoe” Andrew ($49,275).
The final battle was between Dan Schreiber and Devonshire. Schreiber lost a crippling hand late against Devonshire. That left him low on chips. Holding top pair Schreiber lost most of his chips and he was knocked out just two hands later. He finished in second place and got a substantial check of $72,270. Schreiber is the winner of the Heads-Up championship at the 2006 WSOP in Las Vegas. For that massive performance he got $425,000.
Devonshire was declared the winner.
